However, the great majority of restorations are fabricated by offsite technicians who do not have access to the patients. Photography provides a means to bridge the “gap” between the patient and the technician regarding shade and surface character. In this presentation, award-winning professional photographer and ceramist, Naoki Aiba, CDT, will address what dentists and technicians need to know about photography for shade communication. Clinical cases will be presented to illustrated practical applications. At the conclusion of this lecture participants will have gained an understanding of: 1) The method of photographing Shade View photos and their use for shade analysis and virtual blue prints. 2) The Photo Protocol by case design. 3) The workflow of custom white balance and color profiling for shade assessment.

How do we predictably deliver a functional and esthetic result in complex cases? There are multi-factorial macro and microscopic elements that require quantification, coordination, and management for a stable result. The utilization of Quantitative Percussion Diagnostics allows the clinician to evaluate the structural integrity of teeth and implants through calibrated measurements. Guidelines for treatment can then be based on biomechanical principals rather than an empirical approach. At the conclusion of this lecture, participants will have an understanding of: 1) The various techniques to evaluate the stability of teeth and implants. 2) Utilization of Quantitative Percussion Diagnostics. 3) How bio mechanical factors affect treatment planning.

New Ceramics, CAD/CAM, and the APC-Zirconia-Bonding Concept
The recent evolution in ceramic and CAD/CAM technologies is breathtaking but leaves many open questions. Do different ceramics require specific laboratory and clinical skills to function in the mouth? Is all zirconia the same? What are the treatment options for patients considering new ceramic and hybrid materials, adhesive technologies, and digital workflows? And how about CAM/CAM and ceramics in implant dentistry? This presentation will answer such questions based on the latest scientific evidence and discuss esthetic, less invasive, and long-term functional ceramic treatment options, ranging from conservative veneers to implant-supported full-mouth rehabilitations. New high-translucent zirconia ceramics, their handling, and broad indications as monolithic full-contour restorations will be explained. As reliable cementation protocols are fundamental for clinical success of ceramic restorations, the simple APC-zirconia-bonding concept and other ceramic bonding strategies will be introduced. At the conclusion of this lecture, participants will be able to: 1) Differentiate modern ceramic materials and their indications. 2) Discuss the history and development of new zirconia ceramics and CAD/CAM. 3) Describe proper bonding protocols for zirconia and other ceramic restorations on teeth and implants.

Current trends in implant therapy advocate clinical techniques thereby allowing treatment efficiency consisting of condensed clinical procedures, fewer patient appointments, and shortened overall treatment time. Even though there is compelling literature to support positive outcomes in regards to implant survival through immediate implant and tooth replacement therapies, esthetics questions still loom, especially, how to handle multiple tooth sites in the esthetic zone. This presentation will address treatment planning strategies with multiple tooth sites incorporating teeth, immediate implants with tooth replacement, and pontics in the esthetic zone. Innovations in implant macro design, to achieve more consistent screw-retained definitive restorations, and devices / strategies in provisional restoration fabrication to save time will be presented. At the conclusion of this lecture, participants will have gained an understanding of: 1) The case types and protocol for immediate implant therapy. 2) The wound healing process of gap distance and osseointegration. 3) The dual-zone therapeutic concept in esthetic management of anterior extraction sockets.
